Coach Bombino will enter his 13th season as head coach of the Lords men’s soccer program and 8th season at the helm of the indoor program.
The Whitby resident and family man has been involved with several high profile organizations, including the Whitby Iroquois soccer club, head coach of the former Durham Flames of the Canadian Professional Soccer League, and extensive coaching certification in Ontario via the Ontario Soccer Association. In addition to his work with the Lords, Coach Bombino is the Technical Director and Club Head Coach for the Peterborough City Soccer Association.
Having played and starred for the Lords during his college days, Bombino brings a great deal of experience and history to the program. He led the entire OCAA in scoring in 1977-78.
Under Coach Bombino’s guidance and strong supporting cast, the Lords remain a constant contender in the OCAA. The outdoor program has won 17 Division Championships; 19 championship medals and three Ontario championships (1980, 1988 & 1997).
The team has also continually made an impact at the National level: winning two National medals and placing in the top four in Canada four times.
In 2008, coach Bombino racked up his 100th win as Lords head coach. Overall, Bombino has compiled an overall record of 100-46-13 and a conference record of 67-27-8.
The 2009 season feature a number of highlights for the Durham Lords. The team finished with an overall record of 6-3-3 and a conference record of 5-3-3, their 16th straight season with a .500 or better record. The Lords also had the honour of playing at BMO field, home of Toronto FC.
In 2010, the future looks bright for the Men’s Soccer team, with some big expectations for next season as over half the team is eligible to return along with some top recruits.
