This
fall, Coach Dempster will enter his 16th season as Head Coach of
the Lords Baseball program; he guided the Lords to the Canadian
Intercollegiate Baseball Association (CIBA) Ontario Conference Championship
for the second straight year. It marked the second straight year
and fifth time in school history that Durham College advanced to
the National Championships. The Lords have been an annual contender
in the CIBA, while suffering only one losing season in school history.
In January, the 15 year veteran coach was awarded
the Julio Puente Envoy International Coach Award by Major League
Baseball at the American Baseball Coaches Association Conference
in Orlando, Florida. The prestigious award is presented by MLB for
unselfish, dedicated and passionate work in growing the game of
baseball.
Currently Coach “D” is currently on tour
throughout Africa and the UK on behalf of Major League Baseball
(MLB); the long serving head coach has been involved with the Durham
Lords since 1992 and is now aiming to promote the game of baseball
to underprivileged children. In addition to his lead role at Durham,
Coach Dempster is also an Associate Canadian Scout for Major League
Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers and previously a scout for the
26-time World Series Champion, New York Yankees. Coach Dempster
has also co-organized the Ontario Best Ever Clinic for many years
and has assisted the Team Ontario program both north and south of
the border. In 2005-06 he spent the summer in Europe as part of
a group of coaches (under the direction of MLB) running clinics
in Germany and England.
Returning an experienced roster and coaching staff
in 2007-08, the Lords will be looking to repeat their past performance
advancing to the National Championships. The Lords play their home
games at the friendly confines of Kinsmen Memorial Stadium. Coach
Dempster is married with three adult children and resides in Whitby,
Ontario.
