Duggan has been the head coach of the Durham Lords varsity golf program for the past 12 seasons after helping the college re-introduce the program in the 1996-97 season.
Durham golfers have had consistent success on the provincial and national level under Duggan’s leadership.
The Lords have won three overall provincial team titles (men’s in 2004 and 2005, women’s in 2005), with the men’s team earning a medal in six straight OCAA championships from 2001-2006. The Lords have also participated in nine straight CCAA national championships with the men’s team winning three straight silver medals from 2004-2006 and the women’s team winning medals in 2004 (bronze) and 2005 (silver). This past year the men’s team won the overall OCAA bronze medal.
Lords golfers have also had plenty of individual success under Duggan’s tutelage. Tyler Martin won provincial titles in 2004 and 2006 and a national title in 2005 while Will Mitchell won a provincial title in 2005 and a national title in 2006. Both are now playing professionally on the Canadian Tour. Stephanie Brown also brought an individual provincial gold medal to Durham in 2005. Kayleigh Kraemer won the OCAA individual silver medal at this year’s provincial championship.
2009 was another memorable year for the DC golf team on the course. At the 2009 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Provincial Golf Championship hosted by Niagara College, the Lords were able to capture the bronze medal in the overall team competition. Freshman Kayleigh Kraemer also picked up some hardware at the OCAA Championship, as she finished in second place, earning the silver medal.
At the CCAA National Golf Championship in Windsor, the men’s team finished tenth overall in the country, making their tenth straight trip to the National Championship.
Duggan has been the head coach of the Durham Lords varsity golf program since the college re-introduced the program in the 1996-97 season.
Duggan has also been selected to represent Canada at 13th FISU world university golf championships in Antequera, Spain, from June 7 to 11, 2010 as an assistant coach. This is the second time he will represent Canada, as he was also an assistant coach at the 2008 World University Golf Championship that took place in Sun City, South Africa, where the team finished in seventh place.
A genuine love for the game has fuelled Coach Duggan’s pursuit of greatness for his teams. He expects dedication, commitment and positive conduct from all team members. This philosophy has been a recipe for success for the Lords golf program as they strive for gold again.
Coach Duggan is a native of Barrie, and now resides in nearby Courtice with Nancy and their son Ethan. Coach Duggan also serves as the OCAA and CCAA National Golf Convenor.
