Mike Duggan
Varsity Head Coach
15th Year
|
Duggan has been the head coach of the Durham Lords varsity golf program after helping the college re-introduce the program in the 1997-98 season.
2010 was one of the most successful years of any college in OCAA golf history. The women's golf team won Durham's first ever national championship in women's golf (second overall in any sport) in Kamloops, BC at the CCAA championship. Kayleigh Kraemer and Tiffany Albath also picked up medals in the individual competition winning a silver and bronze medal. The pair also won the OCAA women's team title and finished first and second in the individual competition. The men's team won the silver medal at the OCAA championship.
Duggan was named the 2011 CCAA and OCAA coach of the year.
Durham golfers have had consistent success on the provincial and national level under Duggan's leadership. The Lords have won four overall provincial team titles (men's in 2004 and 2005, women's in 2005 and 2010), with the men's team earning a medal in six straight OCAA championships from 2001-2006. The Lords have also participated in 11 straight CCAA national championships with the men's team winning three consecutive silver medals from 2004-2006 and the women's team winning medals in 2004 (bronze) and 2005 (silver).
Lords golfers have also had plenty of individual success under Duggan's tutelage. Tyler Martin won provincial titles in 2004 and 2006 and a national title in 2005 while Will Mitchell won a provincial title in 2005 and a national title in 2006. Both are now playing professionally on the Canadian Tour. Stephanie Brown (2005) and Kayleigh Kraemer (2010) brought an individual provincial gold medal to Durham.
Duggan has also represented Team Canada at the FISU world university golf championships in Antequera, Spain (2010) and Sun City, South Africa (2008).
A genuine love for the game has fuelled Coach Duggan's pursuit of greatness for his teams. He expects dedication, commitment and positive conduct from all team members. This philosophy has been a recipe for success for the Lords golf program as they strive for gold again.
Coach Duggan is a native of Barrie, and now resides in nearby Courtice with Nancy and their son Ethan. Coach Duggan also serves as the OCAA Golf Convenor and was the CCAA Golf Convenor for over ten years. |
