KINGSTON, Ont. – Lords fans had the brooms out in Kingston on Sunday as the Durham College men’s baseball team defeated the Queen’s University Golden Gaels 8-3 and 15-5 in CIBA regular season doubleheader action to complete a four game weekend sweep.
With four wins over the weekend, the Lords (4-0 conference, 6-0 overall) stretched their regular season winning streak to 17 games, with their last loss dating back to October 1, 2006 against Queen’s University.
The Lords currently sit tied atop of the CIBA Ontario standings with a matching 4-0 conference record with the St. Clair Saints. The teams will battle it out next Saturday, September 13 at Kinsmen Stadium as the Lords are set host St. Clair for an afternoon doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The games against St. Clair will mark the Lords 2008 home opener!
GAME ONE SUMMARY
Durham defeated Queen’s 8-3
It looked as if game three of the series was going to be another blow out as Durham jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead. However, Queen’s players had a different idea as they scored three runs of their own in the second inning to tie the game at three’s.
The teams remained tied in a deadlock until the fifth inning when Durham broke things wide open scoring five runs to take a commanding 8-3 lead and eventually the win.
Jon Thiebaud established a new DC men’s baseball single game record drawing four walks on the day. In fact, the entire Lords lineup showed a lot of patience at the plate as the team recorded a total of nine walks over seven innings. 2007 All-Canadian Rob McNab continued his strong start to the season as he went 2-for-4 and scored two runs while freshman Adam Tedesco went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
James Rowe of Durham picked up the win pitching a complete game in his CIBA debut. The young freshman pitched all seven innings allowing only three earned runs on five hits.

GAME TWO SUMMARY
Durham defeated Queen’s 15-5
The defending CIBA Ontario Champions did not hold back in the final meeting of the four game set as the Lords cruised to a 15-5 victory to earn the sweep.
Lords starter Shaun Slemco had a shaky outing giving up five runs on eight hits but the Durham bats would bail him out as they scored five runs in the first inning and added ten more in the late stages of the game to get the “W”. Head coach Sam Dempster got to take a look at the bullpen as Lucas Sharp came in on relief and pitched two innings of shutout ball.
Dan Alayon and Tyler Mandzuk had a big role to play in the Lords offense as they combined for six hits, five runs and five RBI’s while Adam Tedesco chipped in going 2-for-4 with a single run and RBI.
