Micucci Named OCAA Athlete of the Week

Oshawa, Ont. –
Durham College women’s soccer player Brittany Micucci has been named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) female athlete of the week for September 15, 2008.

A Newmarket native, the third-year striker led the Lords to a 4-1 victory scoring a hat-trick against the St. Lawrence Vikings. With the three goal performance, Micucci brings her career scoring total to 28 goals, passing Stephanie Axford as the Durham Lords all-time leading scorer. Axford played three seasons with the Lords from 1990 to 1992.

Micucci also climbed into the sixth position in the OCAA all-time scoring race surpassing Misty Findlay of St. Clair College who had 27 career goals. Micucci now looks to pass Denise Morey of St. Lawrence College, who is sitting in fifth position with 31 career goals. Leading the way in career scoring is OCAA Hall of Famer Joanna Vitale of Humber College with 56 career goals in four seasons with the Hawks.

Micucci is in her third season with the Durham Lords. In her freshmen year, she made quite the impact as she scored 13 goals in seven games, earning the league scoring title. Last season, Micucci had an excellent sophomore season scoring 11 goals in eight games, trailing only teammate and National Player of the Year Katie Szeghalmi by one goal for the league scoring title. In both 2006 and 2007, the Lords would go on and win the OCAA Provincial Championship. This season, Micucci has already scored four goals in two games, to lead the league in scoring averaging 2.00 GPG.

You can catch Micucci and the Lords in action tonight as they will square off against Centennial College at Vaso’s field for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
