Lords Men’s Baseball Home Opener This Saturday!!!
- Battle for First Place -

Oshawa, Ont. –
The Durham College men’s baseball season will be in full swing this weekend as the Lords prepare for their home opener which will take place on Saturday, September 13 against the St. Clair Saints. First pitch the doubleheader will be at 1 p.m. at Kinsmen Stadium.

The Lords (4-0 conference, 6-0 overall) are off to a hot start this season, outscoring their opponents 74-17 in six games this season. The team is coming off a four game sweep of the Queen’s University Golden Gaels this past weekend to open up conference action.

Their opponent, the St. Clair Saints, are entering their first season in the CIBA. Although new to the league, the Saints are also 4-0 to start the season, as the team from Windsor swept the York University Lions on the weekend. Playing an exhibition schedule in 2007, the Saints managed to defeat Durham 11-6 and 9-1. This weekend’s doubleheader will be the first of six games against St. Clair during the regular season.

The three-time defending CIBA Ontario Champions come into this season with a lot of experience in their starting lineup. 2007 All-Canadian and outfielder Robert McNab (Bowmanville, Ont.) enters his third campaign with the Lords along with shortstop Craig Megill (Oshawa, Ont.). Jonathan Thiebaud (Whitby, Ont.), Chris Jones (Oshawa, Ont.) and Dan Alayon (Whitby, Ont.) are also on the list of returning veterans.

Freshmen Mike Pannock (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) and Tyler Mandzuk (Ottawa, Ont.) have made an impact at the plate for the Lords as they are batting .800 and .667 to start the season.

The pitching staff looks strong as Gary Rose (Toronto, Ont.), James Rowe (Whitby, Ont.), Shaun Slemko (Courtice, Ont.) and Julian Daligadu (Whitby, Ont.) all picked up wins against Queen’s last weekend, holding the Golden Gaels to just three runs per game.

Durham head coach Sam Dempster has done an excellent job of consistently putting together a competitive lineup entering his 16th season. He has amassed a 232-154 overall record over his career for an astounding .601 winning percentage. The Lords enter Saturday’s action on an 18-0 regular season game winning streak, with their last loss dating back to October 10, 2006.

After the conclusion of Saturday’s doubleheader, Durham will be right back at it on Sunday as they will host the Queen’s University Golden Gaels for a doubleheader at Kinsmen Stadium. First pitch begins at 1 p.m. for Sunday’s doubleheader.
