Durham’s Anthony Batchelor Win a National Award in Quebec

St. Lambert, PQ – On Thursday, Durham College men’s basketball player Anthony Batchelor was honoured as a CCAA All-Canadian at the kick-off banquet for the 2008 CCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship hosted by Champlain College in St. Lambert, Quebec.

Batchelor was also a nominee for the National Player of the Year Award, which was won by Billy McNutt, a forward with the Douglas College Royals (New Westminster, British Columbia).

The honour adds another piece of hardware to Batchelor’s collection this season, as he has also won the OCAA Player of the Year award as well as being named a First Team League All-Star for the fourth consecutive season. He also made headlines becoming the OCAA All-Time Scoring leader, shattering the long-time scoring record.

Ontario’s lone representative in the championship, the Sheridan Bruins, won their first round match against the Champlain Cavaliers 80-75 to advance to the national semi-finals. Action resumes on Friday.
