Durham holds off Humber in a national championship rematch
CIBA Baseball: Durham defeated Humber 5-4
ETOBICOKE, Ont. – In a rematch of the 2011 CIBA National Championship, the Durham College baseball team defeated Humber 5-4 on Wednesday night.
“It was a good win for the team tonight,” said interim head coach Colin Dempster. “We knew that Humber would have a good team and that we would have to battle hard. We stuck to our game plan and managed to pull out the win.”
Chris Kemlo (Whitby, Ont.) pitched the complete game for Durham, allowing four earned runs on eight hits over seven innings of work.
Humber had the game-tying run on second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Kemlo got the Hawks to fly out to left fielder Michael Del Fuoco to seal the victory.
Tyler Mitchell had his second straight three hit game as he went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI’s and a run scored. Wayne Feltham, Del Fuoco and Owen Laing each had two hits apiece in the win.
The Lords will look to remain undefeated this weekend as they head out west for doubleheaders against the Windsor Lancers and St. Clair Saints. Windsor is 4-0 to start the year.
