Durham College golf team ranked number one in Canada

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women’s golf team is heading into the 2011 season as the number one ranked program in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The preseason rankings were released earlier this week with the Lords topping the charts.

The men’s team is also nationally ranked as they sit fifth in the polls, second in Ontario.

The Lords are led by 2010 CCAA and OCAA coach of the year Mike Duggan, who is entering his 15th season as Durham’s head coach.

2010 was a dream season for Durham as the women’s team won the CCAA national title, while finishing second and third in the individual competition. With Kayleigh Kraemer and Tiffany Albath set to return for the green and gold, the Lords will be looking to win back-to-back national titles.

The men’s team won the OCAA silver medal in 2010 and has finished on the podium at the OCAA championship for three straight seasons.

Durham will participate in the Niagara Invitational on September 28 in preparation for the OCAA Championship which is scheduled to take place from October 3-5 in Cornwall, Ont.

The DC Open has been cancelled due to the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) support staff work stoppage.
