Lords clinch regular season pennant with a sweep over Humber

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – Durham College clinched their second straight CIBA Ontario regular season pennant on Thursday afternoon with a pair of victories over Humber College. The Lords defeated the Hawks by scores of 6-0 and 12-5.

Durham ended their regular season with a 14-2 record, finishing ahead of the second place University of Windsor Lancers. The Lords will now host games one and two of the conference semi-finals against St. Clair College on Saturday, October 8. First pitch at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium is at 1 p.m.

Durham used a four run first inning to take control of game one against Humber. That is all of the run support starting pitcher Shaun Slemko would need as he went the distance, allowing only five hits and zero runs.

Durham’s offence was spread around the line-up five players had one hit. Michael Del Fuoco and Owen Laing each had two RBI’s.

Game two may have looked like a blow out at first glance, but the game actually went into extra innings. Durham eventually won using a seven run ninth inning to blow things wide open.

Chris Kemlo was lights out for Durham pitching six innings in relief for the win, allowing only two hits while striking out four.

Michael Cyr, James Wakutz and Troy McLoughlin each had two hits in the win.
