Durham leads after round one at the OCAA Championship

CORNWALL, Ont. - Durham College entered the 2011 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Golf Championships as the defending women’s team champions. After round one, it appears that they are in no hurry to relinquish the crown.
Defending OCAA champion Kayleigh Kraemer holds a two-stroke lead over Nicole Belcourt of Georgian. Kraemer ran into trouble on the Par 5 ninth hole, where she triple-bogeyed. She got one back with a birdie on the Par 4 seventeenth, and finished her round with an eight-over 80.
Defending OCAA silver medalist Tiffany Albath sits in third place, four shots behind her Durham teammate. Defending OCAA bronze medalist Jasmine Paton of Georgian is six shots off the pace.
In the race for the women's team title, Durham leads Georgian by five strokes after shooting a combined total of 164. Durham is the defending OCAA champions.
On the men’s side, Niagara invitational champion David Lang of Durham sits in fourth place behind a trio of golfers from Humber College. Lang shot an even-par 72 and sits four strokes behind the leader Adrian Cord who had a four-under 68.
Other Durham golfers include Adam Miller (four-over 76), David Pinkerton (four-over 76), Kyle Duke (five-over 77), Sean Perkins (five-over 77) and Kyle Roy (11-over 83).
In the race for the OCAA men's team title, Humber leads Durham by 18 stokes. Georgian is one shot behind Durham in third place.
Round 2 of the 72-hole tournament takes place Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. Round 3 will take place on Wednesday.
