Durham rebounds at Nationals with two wins – Semi-Finals set for Sunday
CIBA National Championship – Moncton, New Brunswick
Game Two: Durham defeated Concordia 6-5 (8)
Game Three: Durham defeated Crandall 10-0
MONCTON, NB – Durham College earned a spot in the national semi-finals of the CIBA championship as they picked up two big wins on Saturday. The Lords defeated Concordia 6-5 in extra innings and shutout Crandall 10-0.
The Lords will now take on the Concordia Stingers on Sunday (10 a.m.) as they look to earn their first trip to the CIBA national finals in Durham College history.
Durham was staring at a 0-2 record as they trailed Concordia 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning in their first game of the day. The Lords would manage to rally with three runs in the inning to tie the game up at 5-5, sending it into extra innings.
After Jake Olynyk came into the game in relief of starting pitcher Julian Daligadu and pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning for Durham, Tyler Mitchell got a walk off single as he drove in Owen Laing, giving the Lords their first win of the championship. Olynyk picked up the win.
Dan Alayon went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI while Mitchell and Wayne Feltham had two hits apiece.
Durham picked up right where they left off in their next game as they scored ten runs in a shutout win over Crandall University.
Durham starting pitcher Chris Kemlo picked up the complete game victory, allowing only three hits while striking out 13 batters.
Alayon had his second three hit game of the day as he went 3-for-4. Troy McLoughlin was 2-for-4 at the plate with one run and two RBI’s.
Durham, Concordia, Carleton and Humber all advanced to the semi-finals with matching 2-1 records.
