Durham drops their opener at baseball Nationals
CIBA National Championship
Game One: Humber defeated Durham 4-2
Game Two: Durham vs. Concordia - Sat. Oct. 22 - 9 a.m.
Game Three: Durham vs. Crandall - Sat. Oct. 22 - 12 p.m.
MONCTON, NB – The Durham College baseball team swept Humber 6-0 during the CIBA Ontario regular season and playoffs, but the Hawks got revenge in the opening game of the CIBA national championship as they defeated the Lords by a score of 4-2.
The Lords bats went cold on Friday as they were only able to get three hits against Humber pitchers Cody Laycox and Dylan Waterman.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Durham scored single runs over the next two innings, but their comeback attempt would fall short with Waterman picking up the save.
Durham’s starting pitcher James Rowe allowed three earned runs over five innings, while reliever Jake Olynyk allowed one run in two innings of work.
Chris Mucilli did most of the damage for Humber knocking in three RBI’s.
Due to poor weather conditions, the national championship schedule had to be modified. Durham will now play two round robin games on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. against the Concordia Stingers. The Lords will also play the hosting Crandall Chargers at noon.
The top four teams from the round robin will qualify for the semi-finals.
