Lords win bronze at the Seneca Invitational
NORTH YORK, Ont. – The Durham College men’s volleyball team went 3-1 this past weekend and earned a bronze medal at the Seneca Volleyball Challenge in North York.
The bronze medal game went the distance as Durham defeated the hosting Seneca Sting by a final score of 3-2.
Freshman setter Brad Van Hartingsveldt of Newcastle, Ont. was named a tournament all-star after the match.
The Lords advanced to the finals with a pair of wins over the CMU Blazers (3-2) and Niagara Knights (3-0). Veterans Steve Clarey and Dave McMann were game MVP’s in the two victories.
With a trip to the gold medal game on the line, Durham was swept by Sheridan 3-0 with Jeremy Hoekstra picking up player of the game honours. Durham has had bad luck against Sheridan in North York, as they were beat in the first round of the OCAA championship by the Bruins at last year’s OCAA championship.
The Lords will look to continue their winning ways this weekend as they host the Adidas Cup men’s volleyball tournament. Eight of the top teams in Ontario will be taking part in this year’s tournament which will take place on October 21-22 at the CRWC.
