Centennial downs Durham to win the 35th annual David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Centennial Colts won the 35th annual David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament with a dominating 79-45 victory over Durham College in the finals.
This marked Centennial’s third tip-off championship title, having last won the tournament in 1978 and 2007. Durham had entered the tournament as the defending champions.
Theon Reefer was named the championship MVP as the Colts defeated George Brown and Fanshawe enroute to the finals. Teammate Jameel Williamson was named a tournament all-star.
Centennial took control of the championship game right from the opening tip-off as they started on an 8-0 run. The Colts would not relinquish the lead as they cruised to the double digits victory over the defending champs.
Justin Jarrett was the leading scorer for Centennial with 19 points, including going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Kevin Honig and Rob Gagliardi were named championship all-stars for Durham.
The Lords defeated the CCAA national champion Vanier Cheetahs in the semi-finals. Vanier won the CCAA national championship last year which was hosted by Durham College.
George Brown won the consolation championship after beating Loyalist 72-48 in the finals. Frankie Gyamfi of George Brown and Malcolm Jean-Michel of Loyalist rounded out the championship all-star team.
