Durham College golfers continue to make headlines

Women’s Golf Team earns top ranking
DC Alumnus Will Mitchell just misses out on the final qualifying stage of the PGA Tour

OSHAWA, Ont. – Despite golf courses closing up for the winter season, the Durham College varsity golf team is still making headlines.

The back-to-back CCAA national championship winning women’s golf team has been rated the top college golf team in Canada according to a vote conducted by the Golf Coaches Association of Canada (GCAC). Durham is ranked sixth among all Universities and Colleges across Canada.

The Canadian University/College Golf Championship will be hosted by the University of Victoria from May 28th to June 1st, 2012 at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria, B.C.

Durham College alumnus Will Mitchell just missed out on advancing to the final round of the PGA tour qualifying stage.

Mitchell opened with rounds of 68 and 67, which left him nine under par and near the top of the leaderboard. But rounds of 73 and 76 to close bumped him down to a tie for 33rd place, and three shots back of where he needed to be.

The 26-year-old has spent his pro career mostly on the Canadian and Great Lake tours.
