McGarrity named OCAA Basketball Athlete of the Week

NORTH YORK, Ont. – Tyler McGarrity of Durham College has earned provincial recognition from the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association as he was named the men’s basketball student-athlete of the week for the period ending Sunday, January 14.

BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (MALE): Tyler McGarrity, Durham
Tyler McGarrity (Ajax, Ont.) led Durham to an 80-77 victory over Fleming-Peterborough on Jan. 13. The team captain led the team in scoring with 27 points and eight rebounds. Fifteen of McGarrity's points came from beyond the arc as he led all shooters with five three-pointers. It was a key win as Durham (6-5) moved one game ahead of Fleming (5-6) and into sixth place in the OCAA East region standings, with the top six teams qualifying for the post-season.

Overall Athlete of the Week (Male): Kyle Donnan, Loyalist, Men's Volleyball
Overall Athlete of the Week (Female): Kelly Nyhof, Humber, Women's Volleyball
Basketball Athlete of the Week (Female): Kaitlind Dutrizac, Fanshawe
