2011 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship logo unveiled

ccaa logo launchOSHAWA, Ont. - The 2011 CCAA Men’s Basketball Championship host committee is proud to announce that third year Durham College graphic design student Deanna Hall has been selected as the winner of the logo contest. Hall’s design will be used as the official logo for the CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship scheduled to take place at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre from March 15-19, 2011.

“When I first heard that my logo was chosen, I was surprised and delighted,” said Hall. “It made me feel more confident in the career path I've chosen, to be able to successfully apply what I've learned through my program to real life projects.”

“It is great that a Durham College student designed the logo for such a big event on campus,” said Ken Babcock, Durham College athletic director and championship chair. “Deanna came up with the perfect design for the championship. We cannot wait for March to arrive as Durham College welcomes the top basketball colleges from across the country.”

Hall will receive $250 as well as a Durham Lords/CCAA men’s basketball national championship prize pack, in addition to having the logo featured on all of the promotional materials created for the 2011 CCAA men’s basketball national championship event.

When asked to describe the concept of the logo, Hall stated: “My idea for this logo was simple; something modern that reflected both the Canadian identity and our spirit for the sport of basketball.”

The championship will feature the top eight teams in the country battling it out for the national crown. The championship field will consist of the winning teams from each conference: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces as well as two wild card teams. As the host, Durham College will receive the final bid in the championship.

The CCAA men’s basketball national championship has been held in Ontario three times in the last 20 years, the last time being in 2006 at Sheridan College in Brampton.

Although this will be the first time Durham has hosted the CCAA men’s basketball championship, the college is no stranger to hosting national events. The Lords have hosted award winning and highly regarded national championships including men’s volleyball (1990 & 2003), women’s volleyball (1990), men’s soccer (1999), women’s soccer (1999), men’s & women’s golf (2001 & 2002) and most recently the CIBA baseball national championship (2009).
