Lords add two more standouts to their 2010 recruiting class
OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham College women's basketball head coach Tim Baulk is proud to announce the addition of Catherine Bougoulias and MacKenzie Murdock to the Lords lineup for the 2010/11 season.
“Both players will be a big boost to our team,” said Baulk. “I expect them to contend for a spot in the starting lineup heading into training camp this September.”
Bougoulias, originally from Montreal, joins the Lords after a successful junior career. Playing for the Notre Dame Cougars in Ajax, Ont., she was a three-time LOSSA gold medalist (one junior, two senior). The 5'6 point guard was team captain in all four years of high school while leading the Cougars to a .900 winning percentage.
Playing club basketball in Scarborough, her teams were constantly in the top 10 rankings in Ontario. In 2006, her team won the Canadian National Club Championship, awarded to the most successful club team in Canada. The team also went on to win the 2006 Ontario Basketball Association silver medal.
Murdock, a 5'11 forward from Brockville, Ont., joins the Lords after an impressive high school and club career. Playing for Thousand Islands Secondary School, Murdock led her team to an OFSAA championship appearance in grade ten. She was named team captain and awarded MVP honours in her final two years on the team.
Murdock also played club basketball for the Brockville Blazers from 2005 to 2010. Her most memorable highlight occurred after coming off an injury that forced her to sit out for two months. Trailing by 10 points with only three minutes left in an important game, Murdock got the nod from the coach to enter the game. In the final minutes, she went on a ‘Reggie Miller type performance' scoring 16 points to lead the team to victory.
When looking back at the game, Murdock commented, “I was very proud of myself because I was unable to play for two months and got back into the game as if I hadn't been injured.”
In every season with the Blazers, she was presented the most sportsmanship award. She has also extended her leadership skills and knowledge of the game to the local community, as she helped coach at the elementary school level and ran an all-girls house league. She has enrolled in the Dental Assistant program at Durham College.
Murdock and Bougoulias round out a deep recruiting class for the women's basketball team, which also includes former Laurier Golden Hawks standout Laura Pacevicius. Mixed with several returning veterans, Baulk is hoping the Lords qualify for the OCAA Championship for the first time since 2006.
