DC women's soccer adds two local recruits
OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham College women's soccer head coach David Staley did not have to look far to fill the void left in the Lords lineup from graduating seniors as he added two local standout recruits for the 2010 season. Joining the Lords will be Chelsey Rogatinsky of Pickering and Katelyn Hulcio of Whitby, who will look to make an impact during their freshmen season.
Rogatinsky, a graduate of Dunbarton, joins the Lords with quite an impressive resume. Playing youth soccer with the Ajax Storm, her team went on to win two OYSL provincial titles and was named the 2004 Ontario team of the year.
Rogatinsky was very active throughout high school as she was a member of a number of varsity teams including soccer, basketball and hockey. She was also strong in academics as she won the Dunbarton applied design award and graduated as an Ontario scholar. She appeared in the popular Durham Region faces of the future representing Rosebank Public School, where she was the valedictorian and top female athlete.
“Chelsey is a strong defender who has great technical skills,” said Staley. “She can also add a little offence as she has the ability to score from long-range free kicks. I am very excited that Chelsey has committed to Durham and look forward to her being an impact player throughout her career.”
Joining Rogatinsky will be Whitby native Katelyn Hulcio, who played youth soccer with the Oshawa Turul. From 2003 to 2007, Hulcio had the chance to travel to several high profile tournaments across North America. In 2006, her team played in the inaugural Secret City Invitational in Tennessee, where they went on to defeat the state champion Knoxville Velocity in the championship final. One year later, her team went on to capture the Futsal Championship which took place at the Toronto Futsal Centre.
From 2008 to 2009, the Sainte-Charles-Garnier graduate played for the Darlington Fury. Her team won the silver division of the Mid-American Soccer Classic. This summer, Hulcio returned to the Oshawa Turul, where her team is putting together another impressive season.
“Katelyn is an outside midfielder who will challenge for a starting spot on the team,” said Staley. “Adding her to the lineup increases our depth of our already strong midfield position. She is also a versatile enough player that she can play as a left or right defensive back. We are excited to have Katelyn in our lineup this September.”
In Staley's first season as head coach, the Lords earned a silver medal at the OCAA Championship after defeating the number one nationally ranked Humber Hawks in the semi-finals. The Lords enter the season with high expectations as they look to win their fifth gold medal since 2003.
