Lords open up exhibition schedule with a pair of tough opponents
Durham College Men's Soccer Results
Ulster Thistle defeated Durham 2-1 (exhibition game)
University of Ottawa defeated Durham 3-1 (exhibition game)
OSHAWA, Ont. The Durham College men's soccer team continued training sessions last week which included a pair of exhibition games. The Lords squared off against Ulster Thistle and the University of Ottawa, with the team playing in two very entertaining matches but finishing on the wrong end of the scoresheet.
The Lords first match of the week was against Ulster Thistle, who are currently in first place in the Ontario Provincial Men's Soccer League. All three goals in the game came in the second half, with Ulster Thistle picking up the 2-1 victory. Despite a late goal off the foot of freshman midfielder Trevor Wilson, the Lords fell short of a comeback after falling behind 2-0.
It was a very entertaining game that saw the younger Durham players experience soccer at its highest level of play in the province, said Durham head coach Stan Bombino. I am very impressed with what I saw tonight given the fact that we only have three returnees on the team from last year. We still need to sort out players in positions and I'm looking forward to continue with training camp.
Durham's second match of the week was against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. After falling down 2-0 in the first half, Durham settled down and managed to get a goal of their own to cut the Gee-Gees lead in half. As the Lords continued to push forward looking for the equalizer, Ottawa capitalized off a DC error to go ahead by the final score of 3-1.
Our team was hurting with a few players out of the lineup tonight, said Bombino. I am confident that our team will continue to grow as we head into September and into the regular season.
The Lords next action will be on Wednesday, September 1 against the Winstars club team. Game time at Vaso's Field is set for approximately 8:30 p.m.
