Durham College baseball back on track with four wins over the weekend
Saturday, September 26
Game One –Durham defeated Queen’s 8-0
Game Two – Durham defeated Queen’s 17-4
Sunday, September 27
Game One – Durham defeated York 16-5
Game Two – Durham defeated York 8-3
OSHAWA, Ont. – When looking back on the season, the Durham College baseball team may look at the four games played this past weekend as the turning point of their season. The Lords played their best baseball of the year as they picked up four straight wins, defeating the Queen’s Gaels and York Lions.
”It was a good weekend for the guys,” said Durham College head coach Sam Dempster. “We look to close out the season strong next weekend and build some momentum heading into the playoffs.”
With the four wins, the Lords (6-6) jumped into second place in the standings, one game up on the York Lions (5-7) with four games remaining. York and Durham will meet up on Saturday, October 3 in North York for a doubleheader, before closing out the regular season at home on Sunday, October 4 with a doubleheader against Queen’s (Kinsmen Memorial Stadium – 1/3 p.m.)
The Durham College pitching staff had a great weekend as Gary Rose, Julian Daligadu and James Rowe all pitched complete games. For Rose and Daligadu, it was there second straight complete game appearances.
2008-09 Durham College Athlete of the Year Jonathan Thiebaud continued his great play at the plate as he is now batting .455 on the season and was 4-for-4 on Saturday’s game two against Queen’s.
