Lords run into some tough luck at the Niagara College Golf Classic

WELLAND, Ont. – Durham College golf head coach Mike Duggan hopes that his team will fair better in October than they did at this week’s Niagara College Golf Classic as the Lords finished in fourth place in the 12 team field.

The tournament took place at LochNess Links in Welland, Ont., the same course that the OCAA provincial championship is scheduled to take place at from October 3-5.

After winning in her first two tournaments of the season, Kayleigh Kraemer ran into some bad luck midway through her round as she had to withdraw with a lower body injury. Kraemer was once again having a sensational round at 3-over par when she had to call it quits. The freshman is expected to be back with the team at the Georgian Invitational taking place at Heritage Hills Golf Course on Thursday, October 1.

On the men’s side, Adam Lewis shot the Lords low score of the day with a 73, finishing in fifth place and three shots off the pace. Teammates Brad Hickey and Ryan Desveaux also finished with impressive scores of 75 and 76 respectively.

David Booth of Sterling College (Scotland) took home the individual title with a low round of 70. Humber, Niagara and Sterling finished in a three way tie for first place in the team competition.

The Lords men’s team will travel next to Elmira, New York and take part in the Elmira Invitational against some of the top collegiate programs in the United States. The two-day tournament is scheduled to run from September 27-28.
