Lords come up big against Niagara

Men’s Basketball: Durham defeated Niagara 76-61

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men’s basketball team finished up its exhibition cycle on Thursday with a 76-61 win over the Niagara Knights.

At the start of the game, Durham got off to a great start and didn’t look back. They held a 14 point lead at the end of the first half and continued to dominate into the second half. When the game was over, it was Durham with a 15 point victory.

Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) was the leading scorer for the Lords with 19 points. Livingston Cunningham (Ajax, Ont.) had another solid game with 12 points. Courtney Small (Oshawa, Ont.) and Tyler Pelley (Ajax, Ont.) both scored 11 points apiece. Pelley was a work-horse in the game as he set his teammates up and had a couple of steals.

The official start of the college basketball season is coming to Durham College from October 16-17 for the David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament. Last year, Durham finished in second place in a close championship match up against Fanshawe.

The Lords start their 2009-10 regular season on Wednesday, October 21 at Georgian College for an 8 p.m. tip-off. Their home opener is Friday, November 6 against Loyalist College. Game time at the CRWC is 8 p.m.
