Lords pick up win number two to start the season
Women’s Volleyball: Durham defeated Trent 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22)
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women’s volleyball team improved to 2-0 to start the OCAA regular season after a 3-1 home victory over the Trent Excalibur on Thursday night.
The Lords impressed the boisterous crowd with plenty of great rallies over the course of four sets, handing the Excalibur (2-1) their first loss of the season. It was a bounce back win for Durham who lost to Niagara College in an exhibition match on Tuesday night in Welland, Ont.
OCAA all-time block leader Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) had a standout game with a team high 14 points on the night, including seven big blocks. Veteran teammate Kerri Fotherby (Newcastle, Ont.) also had a great night scoring ten points for the second consecutive game with eight kills and two aces.
Durham libero Kourtney Cyr had an excellent defensive outing for the green and gold recording a team high 11 digs in the four set victory. At the setter position, Meghan Renwick (Brooklin, Ont.) did a good job of distributing the ball around the court, finding holes in the Excalibur defence.
The Lords will now have a week off before they travel to Sudbury for a doubleheader against the Cambrian Golden Shield and Boreal Viperes from November 6-7. Cambrian is currently leading the OCAA East region with a 3-0 record trailed by the Lords at 2-0.
