Watts ties the Durham College all-time scoring record
Women’s Soccer: Durham defeated Loyalist 6-0
BELLEVILLE, Ont. – With two goals against Loyalist College in a 6-0 victory on Tuesday night, Katie Watts (Oshawa, Ont.) of the Durham College women’s soccer team tied the Lords all-time career scoring record.
Watts recorded her league leading 14th and 15th goal of the season against the Lancers, bringing her career total to 35 goals. This two year goal total ties her with former teammate Brittany Micucci, who set the goal scoring standard last season. Micucci and Watts are also tied for second place in OCAA all-time career scoring, trailing Joanna Vitale of Humber College who scored 56 goals over her four year career from 1999-2002.
The Lords team also has a record in their sight as they are three goals shy of the OCAA single season scoring mark of 54 goals in a season, set by the 2003 Durham College varsity team. The Lords have two games remaining in the season and have averaged 5.6 goals per game.
With the 6-0 win, Durham goalkeeper Morgan Kelly (Oshawa, Ont.) picked up her league leading seventh shutout of the season.
Tuesday’s win also improves Durham to 7-1-1, as they trail Seneca College for first place in the Central East Region by just two points. The two rivals will meet up on Thursday night at 5 p.m. at Seneca College with first place on the line.
Two days later (Saturday, October 17), the Lords will head to Sudbury to take on the Cambrian Golden Shield in their regular season finale. Game time is at 12 p.m.
