The Lords hold on for a five point victory over Cambrian
- Unbelievable weekend for Durham College athletics -
Men’s Basketball: Durham defeated Cambrian 70-65
SUDBURY, Ont. – The provincially ranked Durham College men’s basketball team was able to pick up their second win of the weekend as they defeated Cambrian College 70-65 in Sudbury on Sunday.
The Lords were dominant in the first half, holding a 26 point lead heading into the locker rooms after twenty minutes. In the second half, the roles were reversed as Cambrian did most of the scoring, cutting the Durham lead to just four points. Despite the second half breakdown, the Lords were able to hold off the surging Golden Shield and pick up their third conference win of the year.
After recoding 12 steals in Friday night’s home opener, Tyler Pelley (Ajax, Ont.) turned in another solid defensive performance for Durham. The veteran guard had eight steals against Cambrian, giving him 28 on the season in only four games. Last year’s steal leader (Ajhmo Clarke, St. Lawrence), had a total of 47 steals over the 20 game schedule. Pelley added nine points to his totals as well.
Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) led the Lords in scoring with 22 points while adding five rebounds. The second year forward has been a workhorse for the Lords this season averaging 20 points and eight rebounds per game. Livingston Cunningham (Ajax, Ont.) had a good game scoring 19 points and adding three rebounds.
The Lords will return home for back-to back games next weekend, matching up against La Cite on Friday, November 13 (8 p.m.) followed with a game against the Algonquin Thunder on Saturday, November 14 (3 p.m.). The Lords have 14 straight conference wins on home court dating back to the 2007-08 season.
Sunday's win capped off a great weekend for Durham College athletics as the basketball and volleyball varsity teams combined to go 7-0 in OCAA conference action this weekend.
