Student-athletes taking part in the “Movember” Challenge

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College and UOIT athletic department continues to make a strong commitment to the local community through involvement. In November, student-athletes are taking part in the “Movember” challenge, bringing attention and raising funds for prostate cancer research.

Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the "Mo" (slang for moustache), where men around the globe are encouraged to grow moustaches to help highlight men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Prostate cancer will strike one in six men in their lifetime, while testicular cancer is the most common cancer afflicting men between the ages of 18 and 35. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men with 25,500 diagnosed and 4,400 dying from the disease each year.

Featured on the athletic websites are Kyle MacKinnon ( Durham College baseball) and TJ Legge (UOIT hockey), who have challenged one another to grow the best "Mo" and raise the most donations. Fans can follow their progress online and help support the athletics team by visiting www.durhamlords.com or www.uoitridgebacks.com. Photos of each player will be updated on a weekly basis.
