Lords fall to the Huskies, but manage to get into the holiday spirit
Women’s Basketball: George Brown defeated Durham 77-56 (box score attached)
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham Lords women’s basketball team could not come up with a win on holiday toy drive night as they were defeated by the George Brown Huskies 77-56 on Tuesday.
”It was a tough loss for the team tonight,” said Durham College head coach Tim Baulk, ChPC. “We have no time to dwell on it though as we prepare for an important game against Seneca Friday night.”
Tuesday night was a battle of the top OCAA scorers with Chantal Gray of the Huskies coming out on top going 11-for-13 from the field for 24 points. Lords veteran Erin Emery ( North Bay, Ont.) struggled in the game scoring just seven points, her lowest output of the season.
Big 8 Classic all-star Allison Cain (Newmarket, Ont.) led all Durham scorers with 14 points, hitting 7-of-10 shots. She also added 11 boards for a double-double. Cain is second in OCAA rebounding with 58 boards on the year.
Also recording a double-double for Durham College was freshman Kelsey Hare. The Whitby native scored 11 points and added 11 rebounds, bringing her season average to 11.6 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game. Jessica Newton (Oshawa, Ont.) scored 13 points for Durham in the losing effort.
With the win, the nationally ranked Huskies remain undefeated with a 7-0 record and sit in first place in the East Region. Durham falls to 4-2 on the year and remains in third place, a half game up on the Seneca Sting (3-2) who they will face Friday night in North York.
The Lords are hoping to end their losing streak against Seneca on Friday. The last time Durham defeated the Sting was on January 25, 2005, a span stretching over nine conference games.
Fans at the CRWC took part in the Lords second annual holiday toy drive for the SickKids Foundation. On behalf of the Durham Lords women’s basketball team, we would like to thank you for your support and wish you a safe and happy holiday season.
