Noise and toys wanted at the women’s basketball game Tuesday night
OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham College women’s basketball head coach Tim Baulk is encouraging fans to bring out a lot of toys and noise to the Lords home game on Tuesday night as they take on the George Brown Huskies beginning at 6 p.m.
Tuesday night’s matchup will mark the Lords final home game of 2009 and the final day of their second annual holiday toy drive in support of the SickKids foundation. It will also be an important game for the Lords (4-1) on the court as the George Brown Huskies (6-0) are undefeated this season and sit in first place in the conference standings.
The Durham College men’s team will also be playing George Brown on Tuesday night as they tip-off after the women’s game at 8 p.m.
The SickKids Foundation has compiled a list recommended items for the holiday toy drive to assist participants in focusing on gifts that are necessary. Four different groups that have been targeted for the drive are: infants, toddlers/preschool, school age and teenagers. Infants and teens are being focused on as they are listed as the highest priorities.
The SickKids Foundation is the largest non-governmental granting agency in child health in Canada. SickKids have invested the community's contributions in world-leading children's health research and care and believe there is no one else in Canada as dedicated as they are to eliminating the gap between what is happening in child health research, education and training, and what should be happening.
On behalf of the Durham Lords women’s basketball team, we would like to thank you for your support and wish you a safe and happy holiday season. For more information on the toy drive, you can contact head coach Tim Baulk at dcwomensbasketballheadcoach@yahoo.ca.
