Lords home court winning streak snapped on Saturday

Men’s Basketball: Algonquin defeated Durham 70-60 (box score attached)

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men’s basketball team failed to hold on to a first half lead as the Algonquin Thunder defeated the Lords by a score of 70-60 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Saturday. For Durham, it marks their first regular season home loss in over a year as the team came into the match winning 15 consecutive home games.

With the Lords trailing by a single point with just over a minute left in the game, Durham ran into foul trouble sending the Thunder to the line where they would score the final nine points of the game to earn the ten point victory.

It was a very close game featuring nine lead changes and 11 ties throughout the match, with both teams battling hard to earn the two points.

Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) led the Lords in scoring with 16 points and 10 rebounds while teammate Courtney Small (Oshawa, Ont.) had 11 points and seven rebounds. Smith is having a great sophomore season averaging 19.2 points per game. Tyler McGarrity (Ajax, Ont.) made his return to the lineup scoring 12 points and adding six rebounds in 26 minutes of play.

The Lords had a tough time stopping Anthony Hinds who scored a game high 25 points in the Thunder win.

Durham is now 4-2 on the year and are in third place in the East Region standings. Algonquin sits in second place with a 5-1 record.

The Lords will head off to Centennial (1-5) on Wednesday, November 18 for a game against the Colts (hosted in Unionville, Ont.). The Lords next home action is on Tuesday, November 24 as the George Brown Huskies (3-2) pay a visit to the CRWC. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
