Lords one-two combo honoured by the OCAA

BARRIE, Ont. –The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) recently announced the women’s basketball award winners for the 2009-10 season at the championship banquet hosted by Georgian College. Durham College’s Erin Emery (North Bay, Ont.) and Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) were honoured as they received awards at the banquet.

Durham College captain Erin Emery earned a spot on the OCAA east region all-star team for the second straight season after averaging 15.6 points per game, finishing third overall in east region scoring. The North Bay native was also second in OCAA steals with 63 and sixth in east region rebounding with 107. She made headlines in February climbing into fifth place on the Durham College all-time scoring charts with 583 career points in three seasons with the Lords.

Freshman sensation Kelsey Hare was also honoured at the banquet as she earned a spot on the east region all-rookie team. Hare was just shy of averaging a double-double per game with 9.9 ppg and 9.1 rpg. She was dominant in the paint finishing third in OCAA rebounds with 145.

The addition of Hare to the Lords lineup was instrumental in the team’s turnaround, as she was in the starting five every game this season including the playoffs. She was also a valuable asset for the coaching staff when used as a utility player, having played every position (subbing in for injuries, foul trouble, etc.) in the Lords lineup.

Both players stood out in the Lords playoff game against St. Clair. Hare recorded a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds while Emery was one steal short of a triple-double recording 17 points, 11 rebounds and nine steals.
