Experienced collegiate golfer set to join the Durham Lords
OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham College golf head coach Mike Duggan is pleased to announce the addition of David Lang (Keswick, Ont.) to the Lords team for 2009.
Lang joins the Lords after playing varsity golf at Potomac State College in 2007, where he had tremendous success. He earned Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association (PCAA) All-State Team honours as well a medal at the PCAA Tournament. The twenty year old was named to the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (WPCC) All-Conference and All-Tournament teams. He also holds the school 36-hole record of 144 strokes.
Prior to playing at Potomac, Lang enjoyed a great deal of success in high school and the amateur ranks. While attending Keswick High School, Lang was the golf team captain and MVP in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons while earning three York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) Conference championships. He also holds the YRAA scoring record posting a 67 at a tournament in 2004.
In his career Lang has competed in over 40 National Junior tournaments, has 11 total victories, six runner-up finishes and 17 top-15 finishes.
In addition to his other accomplishments, Lang also holds the course record at Wyndance Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ont. where he carded a 69.
“Having David come to Durham College is going to be a big boost for the golf team,” said Duggan. “He has shown he is capable of playing consistently good golf and winning tournaments. He will be a great addition to our team.”
Last season the Durham Lords golf team had a solid season earning a team bronze medal at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) championships, a second place finish at the Durham Invitational and a third place finish at the Humber Invitational while participating in the PING National Championship in Prince Edward Island.
Members of the team also shared individual success as Rob Lewis and James Hoffman tied for third place at the provincial championship. Prior to the championship, the team earned second place finishes from Ian Parker at the Humber Invitational, Hoffman at the Fanshawe Invitational and Lewis at the Durham Invitational. Although the team is heading into 2009 with a solid lineup, expect Duggan to announce a few more additions to improve the team.
The golf team will begin it’s quest for a national title when they tee off on September 19 at the Fanshawe Invitational. Try outs for the men’s and women’s varsity golf teams begin with a mandatory meeting on September 10, 2009. Full try out details and a tournament schedule is online at www.durhamlords.com.
