Day One of Adidas Cup in the books

OSHAWA, Ont. – Day one of the 22nd annual Durham College women's volleyball Adidas Cup is complete as the top ranked teams in the OCAA are leading the way.

The Nipissing Lakers (ranked first) and Humber Hawks (ranked second) both wrapped up round robin action clinching first place in their respective pools. Both teams earned automatic byes into the semi-final set for Saturday.

After a slow 1-3 start, Durham College won four straight sets to finish in second place in pool B, advancing to the quarterfinals where they will take on the Seneca Sting. Seneca finished in third place in pool A action. Loyalist College will take on Georgian College in the other quarterfinal.

Playoff games will begin tomorrow morning starting at 9 a.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. The championship finals are scheduled to take place at 5 p.m.

For the first time in tournament history, all playoff games are best three of five matches.

This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the Durham College women’s volleyball tournament. The Adidas Cup has become highly regarded in the volleyball community and is one of the biggest and most anticipated invitational tournaments on the OCAA sports calendar.
