Lords send the Grizzlies into hibernation
Men’s Basketball: Durham defeated Georgian 96-74
OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham College cruised to their 20th victory of the season on Friday night as they defeated the Georgian Grizzlies 96-74 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
This is the first time since 1997-1998 that the Lords have had back-to-back 20 win seasons. The Lords finished 2008-09 with a 23-8 overall record.
The Lords sit in second place in the East region standings with a 12-4 conference record, trailing the Fleming Knights (13-2) by just two points.
Durham was led by sophomore Eric Smith of Ajax, Ont. who scored 26 points, going 10-for-13 from the field. Smith had a big part in the Lords jumping out to a 53-32 halftime lead as he scored 16 points in the first half.
Courtney Small of Oshawa, Ont. also had a great shooting game going 8-for-11 for 19 points. Smith and Small sit eighth and ninth respectively on the Durham College all-time scoring list.
Tyler McGarrity (Ajax, Ont.) fell just short of a double-double in the victory as he scored 21 points and added eight rebounds. Point guard Dave Parks (Ajax, Ont.) recorded 14 points coming off the bench for DC.
The Lords defence once again stepped up their game as they forced 13 Georgian turnovers. Tyler Pelley (Ajax, Ont.) snatched up three steals, as he continues to lead the OCAA with 74 this season. The Lords outscored Georgian 25-9 on points off of turnovers.
Durham will have a short break before their next game which is against Seneca College. The Lords will host the Sting on Tuesday, February 9 at 8 p.m.
