Defence the key to victory for Durham over Trent
Women’s Volleyball: Durham defeated Trent 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23)
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College women’s volleyball team came out with a 3-1 victory in their match against the Trent Excalibur on Wednesday night. Set scores were 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-23.
The win puts Durham in sole possession of first place with a 13-2 record, while the Excalibur and Cambrian Golden Shield trail with 12 wins apiece.
The Lords had a great defensive game as Kourtney Cyr (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Kerri Fotherby (Newcastle, Ont.) led the way with 18 and 17 digs respectively. Cyr has 129 digs this season and leads the entire OCAA east region. Fotherby is ninth in the region with 75 digs.
Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) led the Lords with 13 points, including a game high five blocks. Samantha Roelofsen (Elma, Ont.) and Allison Doris (Ajax, Ont.) chipped in with 12 points apiece.
The Lords won the season series against Trent winning both matches by a score of 3-1.
Durham will return to Peterborough next week as they take on the Fleming Knights on Tuesday, February 2 at 6 p.m. Durham is at home on February 5th and 6th when they host the La Cite Coyotes and Algonquin Thunder at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
