Lords drop a 3-0 decision to Trent in men’s volleyball action – Mayer becomes the DC all-time leader in aces

Men’s Volleyball: Trent defeated Durham 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-23)

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Trent Excalibur on the road Wednesday night. Set scores were 25-20, 26-24 and 25-23.

With three aces in the match, Jamie Mayer (Pentanguishene, Ont.) brings his career total to 63, passing Adam Schiedel as Durham’s all-time leader in aces. Mayer now has the OCAA top five in aces in his sites as he chases Costa Solanakis of Algonquin College in the fifth position who had 79 aces in his career.

Mayer finished with a team high 14 points in the loss, while teammate Steve Clarey (Baltimore, Ont.) had 11. Ben Kinzett recorded 18 points for Trent and Josh Neadow finished with 18 digs.

The loss puts Durham (9-4) in fifth place in the OCAA east region standings behind Trent (10-4) by half a game. With the win, Trent sweeps the season series against Durham as they also won in Oshawa 3-2 in October. The Lords have five games remaining in the regular season.

The Lords next action will once again be in Peterborough as they take on the Fleming Knights on Tuesday, February 2. Durham returns home on February 5th and 6th when they host the La Cite Coyotes and Algonquin Thunder at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
