Lords comeback falls short in Ottawa
Women’s Basketball: Algonquin defeated Durham 73-60
OTTAWA – It was a tale of two halves for the Durham College women’s basketball team as they were defeated by the Algonquin Thunder 73-60 in Ottawa.
After getting blown out 48-20 in the first half, Durham looked like a totally different team coming out of the locker room in the second. The Lords outscored Algonquin 40-25 in the final half, but it just wasn’t enough to make up for the slow start.
Algonquin is in first place in the OCAA east region with a 9-1 record. The Lords fall below .500 for the first time this season with a 4-5 record to sit in fifth place.
Erin Emery (North Bay, Ont.) scored 13 second half points and 20 in total to lead the Lords in scoring. The third year captain also added a team high nine rebounds in the loss. Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) and Laura Tomek (Blenheim, Ont.) scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Lords had a tough time slowing down the OCAA’s top offence as the Thunder had five players score nine or more points. Sandre Bascoe had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
The Lords will look to get back to the .500 mark on Tuesday, January 19 as they take on the Centennial Colts (1-7) at home. Tip off at the CRWC is at 6 p.m.
