Smith enters top ten in Lords scoring as Durham picks up a win over La Cite

Men’s Basketball: Durham defeated La Cite 85-58

OTTAWA – Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) scored 21 points for the Durham College men’s basketball team in a 85-58 victory over the La Cite Coyotes to enter the top ten in Lords all-time scoring.

Smith, who added 13 rebounds in his 21 point performance, brings his career total to 604 points to move past assistant coach Matt Markovic (599 career point) into the tenth spot on DC’s all time scoring list. In his first two years with Durham College, Smith is averaging 19.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

It was also a historical night for head coach Desmond Rowley as he picked up his 25th career conference victory in only his second season. Rowley’s conference record is 25-7 for an impressive .781 winning percentage.

Other top scorers for Durham included Tyler Pelley (Ajax, Ont.) with 18 points, Tyler McGarrity (Ajax, Ont.) with 13 and newcomer Garbriel Ogunsakin with 12 in his Lords debut.

The Lords improve to 9-3 on the year and are on a four game conference wining streak. Durham is two points ahead of the Algonquin Thunder (8-3), who they will match up against on Saturday at 5 p.m. Algonquin upset the previously undefeated Fleming Knights (11-1) on Friday night.

The Lords will return home on Tuesday, January 19 for a game against Centennial College (3-7). Tip-off at the CRWC is at 8 p.m.
