In the semi-finals, DC knocked the Algoma Thunderbirds out of the tournament with a 65-62 victory, the team that had eliminated Durham from the OCAA postseason in 2009. After suffering an opening round loss to Fanshawe, the Lords played much better in the semi-finals. Courtney Small (Oshawa, Ont.) recorded 18 points and nine rebounds while Tyler Pelley (Ajax, Ont.) had 17 points. Eric Smith dominated the boards with 14 rebounds in the win.
In the consolation championship, the Lords defeated Mohawk College 75-72, beating the Mountaineers for the second straight year in the finals. Small once again led the team in points with 17 in the win while adding eight rebounds. Smith recorded a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds.
Following the consolation championship, Durham guard Tyler Pelley (Ajax, Ont.) was named a first team tournament all-star. Pelley has had an outstanding year so far as he leads the OCAA in steals with 62 on the year.
Fanshawe defeated George Brown 67-65 in the championship finals.
The Lords are now 16-6 on the year and are looking strong heading into the final months of the regular season as they have won five of their last six games.
After the two big wins to close out the tournament, Durham will look ahead to the 2010 portion of the OCAA regular season as they are set to travel to Ottawa on the weekend for games against Algonquin and La Cite.
