Double-Blue too much for the Lords – Durham eliminated from the playoffs
Men’s Basketball – OCAA Championship Qualifying Game
Sheridan defeated Durham 97-71
BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Durham College men’s basketball team was eliminated from the postseason on Saturday as they were defeated 97-71 by the Sheridan Bruins in Brampton.
Despite the end result, the Lords got out to a great start opening the game on a 13-3 run and forcing the home side to take an early time out.
The Bruins managed to settle themselves down and battled back to take their first lead midway through the half on their way to a slim 41-40 half-time edge.
After seeing Durham open the second half with a three-pointer to wrestle away the lead, the Bruins responded with a 16-2 run that gave them a 57-45 advantage.
Down the stretch, Durham tried to chip away at the lead, but Sheridan would come up with an answer to pull away. With 3:34 left in the game, Bode Olagundoye nailed the Bruins 11th three-pointer which would put the game on ice for the double-blue.
The Bruins advance to the OCAA Championship which will take place from March 4-6 at Fanshawe College in London. The Lords are eliminated from the post season and will search for answers heading into the off season.
The spotlight will be on Durham College in 2011 as the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s basketball national championship will be taking place at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
