Six Durham College athletes named provincial all-stars
OSHAWA, Ont. – Kicking of volleyball championship weekend, the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) announced its’ major award winners Thursday morning. The Lords received plenty of recognition as six Durham College student-athletes earned provincial all-star awards.
Members of the east region champion Durham College women’s volleyball team made up half of the OCAA first team all-stars. Outside hitters Kerri Fotherby (Newcastle, Ont.) and Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) along with setter Meghan Renwick (Brooklin, Ont.) all received the honour. Libero Kourtney Cyr (Uxbridge, Ont.) was named to the second all-star team after an impressive sophomore campaign.
On the men’s side, Durham College seniors Jeff Torraville (Oshawa, Ont.) and Jamie Mayer (Pentanguishene, Ont.) were named OCAA second team all-stars. The recognition marks the second straight year the pair was named to the provincial all-star team.
Both the Lords men’s and women’s team will be in action on the opening day of the OCAA provincial championships (Thursday) in quarter-final action. The men’s team will square off against Nipissing University at 2 p.m. (hosted by Redeemer University College) while the women’s team will be in action against Fanshawe College at 3 p.m. (hosted by Cambrian College).
