Lords fall in their regular season finale – Sheridan on Saturday

Men’s Basketball: George Brown defeated Durham 83-82

OSHAWA, Ont. – For the second time this season, the George Brown Huskies upset the Durham College men’s basketball team, defeating the Lords 83-82 in their OCAA regular season finale.

The Huskies swept the season series over Durham 2-0, as they defeated the Lords 65-63 on a buzzer beater at the CRWC earlier this season.

Wednesday’s loss will send Durham on the road for the qualifying round of the OCAA playoffs. The Lords will take on the Sheridan Bruins on Saturday, February 27 at 4 p.m. (Brampton campus). The winner of that game will advance to the OCAA Championship, set to take place in London, Ont. from March 4-6, 2010.

A win over Sheridan on Saturday would snap the Lords eleven year drought of missing out on the OCAA Championship.

Much like their previous match in Oshawa, Wednesday’s game between George Brown and Durham was a see-saw battle that came down to the final play. With four seconds left in the game, George Brown looked to be in control as they had possession and were up by one.

With a never give up attitude, Durham sophomore Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) managed to come up with a big steal and threw up a desperation three for the win. Much to the delight of the Husky fans, the shot rimmed out giving the home team the one point victory.
