Durham pulls out a five set win against Fleming

Women’s Volleyball: Durham defeated Fleming 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9)

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham Lords managed to comeback twice after falling down a set as they defeated the Fleming Knights 3-2 in Peterborough Tuesday night. Set scores were 16-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18 and15-9.

“Tonight was a tough match,” said Durham college head coach Shane Christopher. “In order to get the win, we had to get contributions from our entire team.”

The Lords improve to 14-2 this season in conference play, sitting in first place in the East Region with four games remaining in the regular season.

After a slow start on Tuesday night, Christopher relied on his veteran’s to get the Lords back in the game.

“Our true leader tonight was Samantha Roelofsen, who provided the emotional boost and energy our team needed. We had a tough time getting going but the girls came together for the win.”

Dropping two sets to the Knights was a rare feat for the Lords and they have only lost 12 sets this season. The victory marked Durham’s ninth win in ten games.

Durham will look ahead to a two game set this weekend against La Cite and Algonquin. Game time against the Coyotes on Friday night is 6 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
