Lords match a season high in a win over Fleming – Emery moves into fifth spot in Lords all-time scoring

Women’s Basketball: Durham defeated Fleming 82-47 (Box Score Attached)

OSHAWA, Ont. – Erin Emery (North Bay, Ont.) scored a season high 33 points as the Durham Lords women’s basketball team cruised to a 82-47 victory over the Fleming Knights on Friday at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

Emery was five points shy of matching the DC single game scoring record of 38, which was set by Durham College graduate Jenn Hevey on October 16, 1998. She did however move into fifth in all-time Lords scoring as she recorded her 572nd career point, passing Angela Cull who had 546 career points.

Emery finished the night with 33 points, nine rebounds and eight steals. In the Lords last two wins, the third year captain has averaged 28 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals. She is top five in OCAA scoring averaging 15.9 points per game.

Freshman Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) recorded a double-double in the win with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Janna Hagan (Sherwood Park, Alta.) was 6-for-9 from the floor scoring 13 points.

Durham did a great job of capitalizing off of Fleming mistakes outscoring the Knights 29-14 off of turnovers. The Lords also won the battle of the boards 50-38.

For Durham, the 82 point performance matches a season high for total points which was set on November 18, 2009 in a win over Centennial.

The Lords are hot heading down the stretch having won five of their last six games, moving into fourth place in the conference standings.

Improving to 9-6 guarantees that Durham will finish with record above .500. The last time Durham did this was in 2005-06 when the team finished 10-6. That was also the last year Durham advanced to the OCAA Championship.

With a win in their season finale on Wednesday, February 24 at George Brown College (14-1), the Lords would clinch fourth place in the OCAA east region and host a crossover playoff game. If the Lords lose, they will have to go on the road for the opening round of the playoffs.
