OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men’s basketball team came out with a determined effort on Friday as they defeated the top seeded Fleming Knights 78-68 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

This marks the second straight week that Durham has defeated the first place team in the east region standings, as they beat St. Lawrence College 75-63.

The Lords played a disciplined game as Fleming was shutout from the free-throw line, attempting only three shots, all in which they missed.

Durham never trailed in the big win, getting out to a quick start as they held a 40-27 lead heading into half-time. Durham would finish the job in the second half cruising to the ten point victory.

Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) recorded a double-double for the Lords as he scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. The Lords big man is leading the OCAA in rebounds this season with 176 on the year. He is moved into sixth place in Lords all-time scoring, passing Lords legend Augusto Duquesne who had 734 career points.

Graduating senior Courtney Small (Oshawa, Ont.) had a solid performance scoring 21 points, moving him into the eighth position on the Durham Lords all-time scoring charts with 696 career points. Tyler McGarrity (Ajax, Ont.) had a game high 25 point performance while grabbing five rebounds.

Defensive specialist Tyler Pelley (Ajax, Ont.) added three more steals to his league leading total. Pelley has 84 steals this season, averaging 4.4 per game.
