Lords wrap up regular season action with a win – OCAA Championship up next
Women’s Volleyball: Durham defeated Georgian 3-2 (25-22, 26-28, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10)
BARRIE, Ont. – The Durham College’s women’s volleyball team ended their regular season on a high note on Wednesday night as they defeated the Georgian Grizzlies 3-2 (25-22, 26-28, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10).
With the win, the Lords improve to 17-3, their best record since 2005-06 when they went 13-0. Durham looks to be a contender for the provincial crown heading towards the OCAA championship which is set to take place in Sudbury from February 25-27, 2010.
Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) saved her best performance for the final game of the season as she recorded a season high 24 points, finishing with 20 kills and four blocks.
With this being her final conference game in her career, Doris leaves Durham as the all-time leader in matches played (81), kills (484), blocks (217) and points (771). She is also the OCAA all-time leader in blocks and third on the scoring charts.
Also leading Durham in the offensive attack was Samantha Roelofsen (Elma, Ont.) and Allison Doris (Ajax, Ont.) who combined for 34 points.
On the defensive end, Kourtney Cyr (Uxbridge, Ont.) finished the match with a team high seven digs. Cyr has 166 digs this season, ranking her second in the East Region.
The Lords will now prepare for the OCAA Championship, where they could possibly have a rematch with Georgian College in the quarter-finals. Durham will face the winner of the Georgian/Fanshawe crossover match that will take place this weekend in London, Ont.
