Mayer ties OCAA record for most aces in a match - Durham sweeps their way into the provincial championship
Men’s Volleyball: Durham defeated Georgian 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18)
BARRIE, Ont. – Jamie Mayer tied the OCAA record for most aces in a match (12) leading the Durham Lords men’s volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over the Georgian Grizzlies Wednesday night, clinching a berth in the OCAA Championship. Set scores in the match were 25-18, 25-16, and 25-18.
Mayer (Pentanguishene, Ont.) was unstoppable from the service line recording 12 aces over the three set match, tying Tim Trites (Fleming – 03/04) and Jasmine Cull (Mohawk – 07-08) for the OCAA all-time record. He also recorded his 600th career point in a Durham Lords uniform.
Mayer played his final conference game for the Lords on Wednesday as he finishes his career as Durham’s all-time leader in matches played (55), aces (78), while ranking second in kills (468) and points (600).
The Lords finish the regular season with a 14-4 record and moved into second place in the East region, earning a bye into the OCAA provincial championship. This will be the Lords return to the OCAA championship after missing out in the 2008-09 season. The championship is scheduled to take place from February 25-27 at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont.
The Lords will open up in the quarter-finals against the winner of the Fleming/Nipissing crossover match which will take place in North Bay this weekend.
