Lords outshine Vikings – Emery just shy of a triple-double

Women’s Basketball: Durham defeated St. Lawrence 75-70 (Box Score Attached)

OSHAWA, Ont. – Erin Emery (North Bay, Ont.) scored 23 points with 11 rebounds and eight steals as the Durham College women’s basketball team improved to 8-6 with a 75-70 win over St. Lawrence College Friday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

This is the first time since 2005/06 that the Lords have recorded eight conference wins in a season. Durham is currently fifth place in the OCAA east region standings, trailing St. Lawrence (9-6) by just two points.

Emery is averaging 15.8 points per game this season, putting her in the top five in OCAA scoring. Her 23 point performance against the Vikes matched her season high which she set in the Lords season opener against Georgian on October 21, 2009.

Jessica Newton (Oshawa, Ont.) continued her strong play as she scored 18 points and added six boards. Newton was hot from beyond the arc as she was 4-for-5. Newton has averaged 20.6 points per game in the Lords last three games.

OCAA freshman of the year candidate Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) was two points shy of a double-double as she scored eight points and had a team high 13 rebounds.

The Lords went 8-for-20 in three-point shooting, outscoring St. Lawrence 24-6. The Lords also capitalized on St. Lawrence fouls as they went 17-for-23 from the free-throw line. The Lords also won the rebound total 57-47.

Durham will host the Fleming Knights (1-14) for their regular season finale on Friday, February 19 as they host. Tip off at the CRWC is 6 p.m.

The Lords will wrap up the regular season on the road against George Brown College (13-1) on Wednesday, February 24. The OCAA crossover round will take place from February 26-27, 2010.
