Lords cannot solve Loyalist once again

Women’s Volleyball: Loyalist defeated Durham 3-1 (25-21, 26-24, 21-25, 25-21)

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women’s volleyball home finale on Thursday night was not what fans have come to expect as the Lords were upset by the Loyalist Lancers 3-1. Set scores were 25-21, 26-24, 21-25 and 25-21.

The Lords have only three losses this season, with two coming against the Lancers who are 14-5 this season. At 16-3, Durham is atop of the East Region standings and are looking ahead to the OCAA Championship taking place in Sudbury from February 25-27.

Kayla Beharriell (Ingersoll, Ont.), Julie Hakkesteegt (Brighton, Ont.), Meghan Renwick (Brooklin, Ont.), Kerri Fotherby (Newscastle, Ont.) and Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) were all honoured as graduating seniors following the game as it was the Lords final home game of the regular season.

Doris and her sister Allison Doris (Ajax, Ont.) led the team with 13 points apiece. Doris (Mandi) had three blocks, as she leads the OCAA with 53 this season. Samantha Roelofsen (Elma, Ont.) had 10 points and 12 digs in the loss.

Kourtney Cyr of Uxbridge, Ont. had a team high 14 digs in the match. Cyr is second the East Region in digs with 173 this season.

The Lords will close out the regular season in Barrie on Wednesday, February 17 against the Georgian Grizzlies. First serve is at 6 p.m.
